Rice hulls are a renewable resource and are produced as a waste product during rice processing.
They offer you:

Improved structure: The coarse texture prevents soil clumping and compaction, promotes stable air pores and root development.

Optimized drainage: They ensure rapid water drainage and prevent waterlogging, which reduces root rot.

Water retention: Through capillary action, they retain excess moisture and release it when needed.

Biodegradable: As a purely organic material, they decompose slowly and contribute to humus formation.
Mixing ratio:

Incorporate rice hulls at 20–30% of the total volume into your substrate (e.g., 10–15 L for every 50 L)

Incorporation: Add them as the last step after the other dry amendments and mix thoroughly with a rake or spade.

Watering: After mixing, thoroughly moisten the substrate so that the moisture is evenly distributed

Regeneration: Use rice hulls over several growing cycles – they decompose slowly and retain their structure for a long time
Practical tips

Pre-mixing: To reduce dust, you can slightly moisten the hulls before adding them to the dry substrate.
